Zurich is Switzerland because it encompasses all the merits of this country: The City – The Lake – The Mountains.
Zürich is an economic, scientific and cultural centre, and it’s also a great place to live - officially. Zürich leads Switzerland in the domains of science, thanks to Zürich University and ETH, and its theatre, opera house, concert hall, museums and art galleries combine to create an unbeatable cultural life. The canton’s banks, insurance and communications sectors get much of the limelight but Zurich is a great place for any visitor, expats and tourists alike. Residents enjoy one of the highest qualities of life in the world, with attractive working and residential areas that are filled with greenery and have good access to the lake, rivers, hills and forests.
Zurich is much more than its thriving centre; with a total population of 1.3 million inhabitants, it is Switzerland’s most densely populated canton and the presence of numerous global concerns active in the industrial and service sectors has given it a central role in the country’s economy. A bonus for many companies is the presence of numerous internationally renowned seats of learning such as the Federal institute of Technology, the University of Zurich and the Winterthur University of Applied Sciences.
It is no surprise then that many excellent international schools are based in the canton, on both the left and right sides of the Lake of Zurich and in Winterthur and Wallisellen. It is an easy place to be a ‘foreigner’ since Zurich residents originated from 173 countries at the last count.
And beyond Zurich? The canton boasts an international airport and by car or train the rest of Europe is never far away, with short trips bringing you to Germany, France and Italy. But why would you want to leave…?
