City plans to build five residential tower blocks

The city of Zurich is planning to build as many as five residential tower blocks by 2023 and indeed on its last remaining plot of land so far undeveloped.
These five tower blocks, up to 70 metres tall, are to be built by housing cooperatives or municipal foundations on Thurgauerstrasse, the main road leading northwards from the Hallenstadion. Furthermore, a school is also earmarked for the site.
Both the Meili Peter firm of architects and the Vogt landscape gardening company have drawn up plans for a general design of development on this site, including flats built around courtyards to which the public will have access. However, a definite decision was made not to include of shopping centres, though there is the possibility of a footbridge across Thurgauerstrasse. As for the final designs of the individual tower blocks, these will be chosen from those submitted by a number of firms of architects in a competition.
Anyone who would like to see the general plans and layout designs can do so as they are available for public inspection until Tuesday 20 December. If they so desire, they can also raise objections.
